This tool is so great (i just found out that this is existing, thanks to all the developers you are great :) ).

I have one question, do i just need the files from my cds (like an other interpreter tool called scummvm does) or is patching still necessary? If so, how do i patch and what is with fixes like BG2 fixpacks?

Yes, patches (and fixpack) modify the dataset. Many errors have been fixed by them. If you omit these, you will have a buggy game.

ok, what is the best way to patch the game? Do i have to install it first on Windows to apply the patches?
My goal is to run GemRB on linux in the moment i only have a Win7 64 bit OS on a notebook available, i think it could be a problem to install the game on this system.

You can run mods with WINE or in VirtualBox' windows.

I think the patches work with Wine. But if you have a Windows available, it is simpler to do the job there.
You can install the game on the win7 notebook, probably even play it with the proper settings.
