Assertion Errors related to creatures

I'm getting some Assertion Errors that completely stops the game for me. I suspect they are related to SCSII - perhaps because of an interaction with Level1NPCs, though the last part is mostly guesswork. I have Baldur's Gate Trilogy installed.

Some backstory:
I was going through Irenicus' dungeon with my Cleric/Mage (8/8), and found it pretty difficult without the ability to rest. Therefore, I uninstalled the Improved Irenicus' Dungeon feature. This crashed my game (Assertion Error in ObjCreature.cpp) when I attempted to sleep, probably because SCSII was trying to summon the duergar (which were now uninstalled). Therefore, I restarted the game (loaded up my save from BG1, and talked to Belt once more). This got rid of the crash and I could sleep fine. Problem averted, right?

Except now when I try to enter The Copper Coronet, my game crashes. It gives the following error message:

"An assertion failed in ObjCreature.cpp at line number 12381"

I have used Level1NPC to change Nalia's class, and of the folks in The Copper Coronet, she's the only one I've changed via mods majorly, I think. Hence my guess that it might be related to Level1NPC. The reason I point towards SCSII is that it was the cause of the other error in ObjCreature.

Anybody who'd care to guess on a solution? I'm kindda scared I might run into other errors like this now :)

I uninstalled the Improved Irenicus' Dungeon feature. This crashed my game (Assertion Error in ObjCreature.cpp) when I attempted to sleep, probably because SCSII was trying to summon the duergar (which were now uninstalled). Therefore, I restarted the game (loaded up my save from BG1, and talked to Belt once more). This got rid of the crash and I could sleep fine. Problem averted, right?

Um, yeah, but it has nothing to do with L1NPCs. You rarely want to install/uninstall mods as complex as SCS2 without starting a new game. Areas (including creature references within them) are stored in saved games if you've visited them, same goes for many other game resources.

I have used Level1NPC to change Nalia's class, and of the folks in The Copper Coronet, she's the only one I've changed via mods majorly, I think. Hence my guess that it might be related to Level1NPC.

Hard to tell without seeing the DEBUG log (or at least the bit related to Nalia) but before even doing that, try the v1.8 first. If you still have issues you think are L1NPCs-related, please post in that forum so DavidW doesn't have to look into something that isn't relevant to him.

I'm aware that the first problem isn't Level1NPC-related :)

However, since that got fixed by starting a new game, I was wondering whether problem #2 was a conflict of some sort. I still think the main problem is with SCSII though, which is why I posted it here. I will try v1.8 when I can (unfortunately I had to go travel today so it might be some time) and report. If it doesn't work, I'll report back.

Okay, finally got my PC to my new place and got internet.

Tried it with the updated version of Level1NPCs, still got the error. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as this is basically as I can't proceed at all right now (unless I can somehow gain access to Copper Coronet content without going in there).

Does it also crash if you create a new character from scratch and CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("ar0406") at the start of the game?

4) Yes, it crashes with a new character and the MoveTo command - BUT, it doesn't give the assertion error, it just crashes (tobex and bgmain still run, but bgmain is just a black window taking up 3/4 of the screen)

3) I can't find a 'Logging On' entry in the .ini. Should I add it, if so, where?

Add Logging On=1 under the Program Options heading then reproduce the crash and post the resulting text from baldur.err (no need to attach it, just copy and paste the error message).

I couldn't reproduce it with the fixes, tweaks and L1NPCs changes you made to Nalia. I started to add on SCS2 to see if that was the issue but I'm getting sick of waiting for Smarter Mages to finish after like 15 minutes or more. (Honestly, that component could really do with some optimisation, and I don't think the SSL helps either. The message "This component can take a few minutes to install" should be changed to "This component can take bloody ages to install...")

But I don't think it has to do with either SCS2 or L1NPCs. I think it is the same as this issue which is an install order defect. Namely, you've got Tweaks installed quite early (before BG1UB even) when it should be near the end.

You can run a few other tests, as per that post:
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("nalia8") - if this works, it isn't an issue with Nalia
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("scdur")
CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("gorje")

Those last two were crashing the game in that other post. It would be interesting to find out why exactly, which you can do by typing weidu --change-log scdur.cre etc. from a command prompt in your game folder.

You can also try this utility, which will do the same thing as the console only automatically, and for everything in ar0406. I should've suggested that to begin with - I'm forgetting my own stuff.

And SCS2 *finally* finished installing by the time I finished typing this. Couldn't reproduce the crash with that either, so it's most likely what I said.

I posted that install order at SHS a long time a go and got the go ahead, been using it ever since (added a few mods to the list, but tweak has alway been where it's at).

I will do the tests you suggest and post the results here.

Create scdur: Freezes the game

Create gorje: Crashes the game (An Assertion failed in CGameEffect.cpp at line number 1536)

Well then, empirically that proves it's the same issue as the post on SHS, which means presumably you can solve it the same way - by putting Tweaks toward the end rather than the beginning. The BWP guide is probably the best guide to BG2/BGT installation order, even if you're only using some of the mods. But if you do want to figure out what the exact issue is, you can run a weidu --change-log like I said on those CREs, then zip and attach the resulting SCDUR####.CRE and GORJE####.CRE files along with the logs and I can try to see what caused the issues and where (a more verbose guide to change-logging is here).

Ideally, you should install mods in the proper order, but it *might* be fixable if you run the --change-logs as indicated. Can't tell without seeing them and the related CRE files though.
